Being one of the most fascinating cities in the US, Tulsa has a wide cultural offer. The city boasts a unique natural beauty because it’s located by the Arkansas River between the foothills of the Ozark Mountains and the Osage hills.

Tulsa is considered the cultural capital of Oklahoma thanks to its art museums, opera and ballet companies, and art deco architecture.

Visitors can also find a connection with America’s history, particularly at the Greenwood Rising, a cultural center whose main objective is to educate and inform about the Tulsa race massacre. This is the city’s way to pay tribute to the victims and survivors.

New digital guide for the Greenwood Rising

This memorial center commemorates the victims of the racial massacre of Tulsa, which took place in 1921. The Greenwood Rising was created so that this crime is never forgotten because, as Martin Luther King said, “those who don’t know the past are doomed to repeat it”.

Interim executive director, Phil Armstrong, stated that upon the center’s inauguration they expected to reach a number of 2,500 visitors each month. Fortunately, the expectations have been more than met as they received an average of 4,500 visitors a month during the first year. Moreover, even though they expected attendance to decrease during the summer, they gathered nearly 8,000 visitors in July.

But what’s even better news is that Greenwood Rising will be part of the Bloomberg Connects app, a platform that showcases over 80 different institutions around the world. Thus, any person from New York to London, from Canada to Patagonia will be able to take this historic tour. The app can be downloaded for free, and it serves teachers, professors, and students as a valuable educational tool.

Even if you can’t travel to Oklahoma, you can take a virtual tour and enjoy the exhibits from your mobile device. If you are ready to travel, then the app offers an excellent preview so you can start to live the experience before you arrive at the museum.

So, everyone who wants to learn about the Tulsa racial massacre can scroll down and see some teasers of the exhibits here displayed, a map of the institution, videos, audios, and all kinds of information.

The 918 Cerveza beer will be carried over 60 locations

QuickTrip is an American brand of convenience stores from Tulsa and currently operates in several states. Americans can find these stores across:

  • North Carolina
  • South Carolina

The good news is that now the local 918 Cerveza beer will be available in QuickTrip as well. As you can see in the video below, this beer is brewed by FC Tulsa and Cabin Boys and has been around for more than a year. Since last March they have been placed in liquor stores, grocery stores, and restaurants across Tulsa and the region, and now they are expanding into new horizons. 60 QuickTrip stores will offer this Tulsa-born beer so that more people can enjoy them.

Lisa Mcllroy is the president and art director of the brand and she stated that their objective from the beginning was to create a beer whose focus is mainly on the developing city. They brew this beer with flaked corn giving it a unique tortilla and citrus flavor and light consistency.

The president said that she’s excited to have 918 Cerveza in QuickTrip, a company with over 50 locations only in the Tulsan metropolitan area. Valued at $11 million, this chain promises a boost to the local beer brand. Lisa Mcllroy also said that this move will help boost the local economy and showcase the Tulsan products.
